6 more people are to begin a Hunger Strike on Friday, calling on a public meeting with Minister of Forests, Katrine Conroy about protecting British Columbia’s old growth forests.

Unceded Coast Salish Territories – 6 more people will stop eating in order to call on the honourable Katrine Conroy, Minister of Forests to host a public meeting on the protection of the last remaining old growth forests in British Columbia.

Grace (18) & Jordana (18)  are both students of University of Victoria, while Sabrina (22) & Isaac (20) study at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. When considering their future Isaac, said:

“Students and youth of my generation have no future to look forward to if the government continues to place corporate profit over Indigenous lives and our planet… Firm direct action seems to be our only option to force the change our environment needs.”

“So often I feel helpless toward helping our current climate crisis because I can see no clear solution or course of action. With Save Old Growth the step that needs to be taken is clear, and not only that, it is so simple. I have joined this strike because I am shocked and seriously disappointed in our government for not taking this simple, though very necessary, course of action.” said Grace in Victoria.

All members of the legislative assembly and staff are invited to call or visit them during the hunger strike to arrange a formal meeting, or just to talk or share a cup of tea.

Brent Eichler, 57, who began his hunger strike last Friday, has been sitting in Trout Lake Park in Vancouver and has lost 8lbs already. He has had many visits from the public but is yet to hear any word from the minister.
