June 9, 2022
To the Provincial Government of British Columbia, Premier John Horgan, all Minister, MLA’s and Staff.
We the people of British Columbia call upon you to fulfil your election promises, follow scientific advice and act upon the will and desires of your citizens by passing legislation to immediately end all old growth logging in British Columbia.
It is clear from the last year alone that the climate crisis is upon us. The cost of repairing the damage from the 2021 floods is estimated to be $9Bn, entire towns were lost to wildfires and lest we forget that 619 people perished during the heat dome.
Old Growth Forests are one of the greatest on-land carbon sinks and they protect us from fires, floods and landslides. Destroying the last of these forests in 2022 will result in further loss and suffering for the people of this province.
82% of people in British Columbia support provincial legislation to ban all old growth logging in BC. They want to preserve the identity of Beautiful British Columbia.
Save Old Growth would like to engage in respectful dialogue with the provincial government and re-iterate that if the government can publicly promise legislative change to ban all old growth logging, all disruptions will stop immediately.
Save Old Growth and the People of British Columbia
